In a postcolonial world "racism" and "migration" are significant phenomena and categories. The course examines some of the canonical literature on racism and migration, focusing on issues of domination and power. Adopting the intersectional approach, other interrelated forms of discrimination including classism, sexism and ableism will be analyzed. Additionally the course will also engage with how the different theoretical approaches are employed in (transnational) social work. As part of the university's international curriculum, the course will be conducted in English. Sufficient English language competence is required. Active and regular participation in the course and a 2 page essay is expected in order to earn minimum ECTS. To earn a certificate of performance for the diversity module, a 30 minute class presentation or submission of a written paper (15 pages) by the end of the semester is expected. |
