Turkish Politics and Its Reflections in Berlin
In this course, first, we will examine the recent political unrest and regime change in Turkey taking into consideration the historical background and the global context. We will discuss about the topics such as authoritarianism, nationalism, Kurdish problem, secularism, political Islam, social movements, and socialist left. Latter, we will focus on the reflections of Turkish politics to Berlin, which contains a huge number of Turkey-origin immigrants. We will discuss about the political polarization among Turkey-origin community of Berlin, in relation to recent political developments in Turkey and local dynamics. The local history of Turkish migrants since 1960s will also be included. The course language will be English. |
