Dis_Ability and Ableism (U3 to M7 Diversity Studies) - Einzelansicht

This course centres the perspectives of disabled activists, researchers and scholars, whose work is foundational to the interdisciplinary field of Disability Studies. Together we will engage in unlearning ableism* and explore the following topics: emancipatory disability research and the development of the social model of disability; the relationship between disabled people’s movement and Disability Studies or between activism and theory building; the intersections of ableism[*] and other forms of structural oppression; the disabled people’s contributions to policy and legislation, in particular the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2006. Most importantly we will jointly inquire the implications and meaning of these developments for social work.

The course takes place every two weeks on Wednesday from 4 to 5.30 pm.
