Social Work with Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Israel and Germany Insights, Comparative Analysis and Critical Reflection – in exchange with students from the Bob Schapell School of Social Work in Tel Aviv
The issue of migration and refuge is a highly contested issue as well in Israel as in Germany. In both countries the societal and political climate is not favourable of accepting asylum seekers. We also witness a significant rise in nationalism, antisemitism, racism and especially anti Muslim racism and the externalization and closing down of borders in many regions around the world.
Before this background we want to focus our discussion and exchange on good practices of Social Workers in the field of migration in the Israelian and German context. Where should Social Workers who perceive their profession also as a human rights profession intervene? How shall we deal with the border politics of our countries and what stance can we take concerning the societal and political climate in both countries?
As part of this seminar, we will welcome a group of students from Tel Aviv in June and also will be able to visit Tel Aviv with our class or those who want to join such a journey. |
