The ASH Pre-Study Program

The Pre-Study Program at Alice Salomon University prepares prospective students with international educational biographies for regular studies in the fields of social work, childhood education, health and nursing professions and physiotherapy/occupational therapy. As part of the ASH Pre-Study Program, you will acquire all the necessary prerequisites for applying to a degree program at ASH Berlin.

Study preparation

The twelve-month ASH Pre-Study Program is aimed at all newcomers, i.e. international and refugee prospective students with foreign certificates. The Pre-Study Program offers

  • German(B1-C1) for study preparation
  • Preparation for the German language test for university admission
  • Guidance and support for mandatory pre-study internships
  • Guest lectures in regular study courses
  • Support with university applications

The twelve-month pre-study program begins in July and ends in June of the following year with the German language exam for university admission at ASH (DS-ASH).

The three-month pre-study course is aimed at all newcomers, i.e. international and refugee prospective students with foreign certificates. The pre-study course offers

  • Preparation for the German language test for university admission
  • Guidance and support for mandatory pre-study internships
  • Guest lectures in regular study courses
  • Support with university applications

The three-month pre-study course takes place from April to June and ends with the German language exam for university admission at ASH Berlin (DS-ASH).

Application requirements

  • University entrance qualification in German or English translation
  • For the twelve-month ASH Pre-Study Program: successful completion of the German B1 placement test
  • For the three-month Pre-Study course: proof of B2 German language skills (planned)

Application documents

  • Letter of motivation (German/English, maximum two pages)
  • Curriculum vitae (German/English)
  • Identity document (copy)
  • University entrance qualification (German/English) or proof of previous education including school-leaving certificate and, if applicable, previous academic achievements

Application period

  • April 15 to May 15 for the twelve-month pre-study program starting in July
  • January 15 to February 15 for the three-month pre-study course starting in April (in planning)

With the German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education at ASH Berlin (DS-ASH), applicants with foreign certificates can provide proof of the German language skills required for studying at Alice Salomon University. Advice before your studies

Psycho-social counseling is open to all participants of the ASH Pre-Study Program. We provide advice and support on all topics related to the ASH Pre-Study Program and the transition to studying. We provide support in dealing with authorities and offer low-threshold psychological referral counseling.

Our student team provides advice on language courses, educational opportunities, legal assistance and housing. We also offer peer-to-peer mentoring to all participants in the ASH Pre-Study Program during their preparatory period.
