The main goal of the Public Health study programme is to promote the health of the population. The Berlin School of Public Health (BSPH) was founded by ASH Berlin, Charité and TU Berlin as a training and research platform in 2014. It is based on the international model of the Schools of Public Health, which carry out multidisciplinary research on the diverse aspects of health. Since 2016, the newly established consecutive MScPH study programme has been qualifying students for management positions in institutions, e.g. at municipal, state and federal authorities, and in the diverse fields of the health sciences. The study programme also provides the basis for commencing a doctorate.

Combining both science and practice, the areas of work and methods covered by the Public Health study programme focus on avoiding illnesses, extending life spans and promoting physical and mental health while considering the fair distribution and efficient use of available resources. Public Health deals with the structure of healthcare and the social conditions for preserving the health of the population.

The study programme is a full-time programme. Subject to application, it can also be studied on a part-time basis (e.g. due to family obligations).

A professionally qualifying university degree relevant to public health is required for admission.

This question is relatively hard to answer as the number of applicants can change from year to year. At the present time, the chances of getting one of the 60 study places are good. Apart from the number of applications, other factors that can influence the likelihood of getting a study place include the “aptitude” of the applicants.

All applicants who have submitted an application for admission in due form and time and who meet the admission requirements will be invited to participate in a subject test. The study places in the MScPH are awarded according to a ranking list of applicants. The ranking is based on the grade in the previous degree (55%) and the grade in the subject test (45%).

No tuition fees are charged for the study programme, only semester fees and semester contributions. Approx. 300 euros is payable per semester, which includes the semester ticket for public transport.

Successful graduates of the study programme are awarded the academic and professionally qualifying degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.). It is formally equal to master’s degrees from universities and is entitled to a doctorate.

Yes, the MScPH is an accredited academic program and is evaluated regularly.

Graduates of the Master’s study programme are qualified for positions related to public health in science, politics and consulting. They are also qualified to commence higher management careers and doctoral studies.
