What is/was your business idea?
The five of us wanted to establish a youth welfare organization specifically focused on working with so-called "system breakers" in Berlin. For many young people, the support system is too rigid, leading to constant breakdowns in care. Our goal was to create a low-threshold support service through intensive, individual case management that would provide a framework for young people and help them find stability. It was also important to us that the organization be free from religious affiliations, which is relatively rare in Berlin – and in Germany in general – and does not reflect societal developments.
What motivated you to seek startup consulting at ASH Berlin? Where else did you seek help?
During our research, the ASHEXIST project was the only offering that matched our needs. Other services were either too far removed from our content needs or associated with high costs.
How did the startup consulting help you?
The consulting supported us by providing knowledge about the startup process and challenged us with targeted questions and topics to continue our founding process in a structured manner.
What are you currently working on? What are your next steps?
We are currently working on establishing ourselves within the Berlin landscape of youth service providers. Our aim is to offer high-quality support services while simultaneously being an attractive employer with values that employees can identify with.
How can people support you in your venture?
At the moment, we are working on improving our office spaces for both staff and the young people we serve (e.g., a kitchen for cooking together), and we would greatly appreciate donations to help with this.
How did the business idea come about?
Dissatisfaction with our previous jobs and the conviction that we could do it better. :)
What do you aim to achieve with your social enterprise?
We want to develop tailored support services and fill gaps in the youth welfare system.
