New Year's reception of the university and presentation of the Alice Salomon Award to Anna Csongor

About the award winner
The Alice Salomon Award 2024 goes to the Hungarian researcher and social work pioneer Anna Csongor. Born in Budapest in 1951, she is currently a retired lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Eötvös Loránd University Budapest (ELTE) and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Autonómia Foundation. Her life's work is dedicated to promoting equal opportunities for Roma in Hungary and analyzing the interactions between poverty and education. The jury of the Alice Salomon Award particularly emphasizes that Anna Csongor was a key figure in the "Poverty and Roma" program of the Autonómia Foundation - the first independent foundation to initiate development programs for Roma and NGOs after the regime change in Hungary in 1990: "We recognize Anna Csongor's decisive commitment and pioneering work against social, racial and ethnic discrimination - an endeavor that is becoming even more important against the backdrop of current political developments in Hungary." - jury statement, presented by Vice-Rector and jury member Prof. Dr. Anja Voss
- laudatory speech by András Nun and János Ignácz
- award ceremony for Anna Csongor and acceptance speech by the awardee
- the event will be accompanied by music from the artist TAYO
Afterwards, the university invites all guests to enjoy a buffet.
About the award
With the Alice Salomon Award, the university honors personalities who have made outstanding contributions to the emancipation of women*, queer, trans*, inter* and nonbinary people and the development of social work and who, in a figurative sense, carry on Alice Salomon's work. With the prize, the university also wants to contribute to raising public awareness of Alice Salomon's life's work and to honor its relevance and continuing significance. The prize is endowed with 6,000 euros.
