Alice-Salomon-Platz 5

ASH Berlin in cooperation with the Urban Development and Economic Development of the Marzahn Hellersdorf District Office as well as the nGbK

Under the title mein platz | dein platz | unser platz (my square | your square | our square ), a participation workshop on the design of the square is taking place on Alice-Salomon-Platz. It is embedded in two film evenings. With this kick-off event of the ASH Berlin Campus Transferale 2023, the university approaches the regional public with two central themes: educational and creative justice at a spatial interface between science, politics, civil and urban society, culture and business. The Innovative University Project "Campus Transferale" is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

And besides: Practice research, listening and talking

Two outdoor film evenings on the topic of education of the future.

Two films will be shown at Alice-Salomon-Platz:

  • "Berlin Rebel High School" (2018) is a documentary film about the School for Adult Education (SFE) in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The school was founded in 1973 as a grassroots, reform pedagogical project, without a director and without grades. Through portraits and statements of today's students, the film looks at how the project still shines today as a vision of the future for successful education, emancipation and community.
  • "Kalle Kosmonaut" (2022) as a statement from Hellersdorf portrays the life of young Kalle over 10 years and shows how the social inequality experienced by the district of  Hellersdorf determined his biography as a youth.

The venue is deliberately chosen: the Alice-Salomon-Platz, at the same time forecourt for the university and for the shopping center "Marktplatz Center", has been without quality of stay for both user groups for years. The content of the films from the center and the periphery of the city offer a common denominator: the future of education – in the university and on the streets.

For more quality of stay  participation workshop on the design of the square

Embedded in these film evenings, ASH Berlin is organizing a participation workshop on the design of Alice-Salomon-Platz on 07.07.2023 with the participation of colleagues from Urban Development and the Economic Development Department of the Marzahn Hellersdorf District Office. Students and student initiatives participate as well as people working at the ASH.

The desired development of a decentralized university campus means that the paths of residents, those working in Helle Mitte or customers, and those studying and working at the university increasingly cross on and across the hitherto uninviting Alice-Salomon-Platz. If transfer is to flow continuously in both directions, these intersections on the square must also be revitalized together. With the participation workshop, in which various creative and activating participation methods are used, ASH Berlin provides an initial template for the upcoming participation processes. The results of the participation workshop will be presented at another Transferale event in October.
