In the 2024 summer semester, the Berlin SAGE universities are inviting you to the lecture series "Antisemitism - challenges and opportunities for action in social work, education and healthcare". Experts from the fields of social work, health and care as well as education and training will shed light on aspects such as anti-Semitism in discrimination research, in daycare centers and in the professional field of social work. The final event is planned for July 10, 2024 and will be organized by the university management and Prof. Dr. Samuel Salzborn, anti-Semitism commissioner in Berlin. The series of events is supported by the Berlin Partner network as part of the Berlin against anti-Semitism campaign.
On 29 May 2024, Dr. Benjamin Rensch-Kruse will present ethnographic perspectives on anti-Semitism in early childhood institutions in a digital lecture. Rensch-Kruse is a research associate and coordinator of the research project 'Antisemitism among young children. Constructions of difference at pre-school and primary school age' at the Goethe University Frankfurt. This research project attempts to close a knowledge gap, as anti-Semitism in early childhood institutions has not yet been investigated. Thus, there is still no empirically sound knowledge about the extent to which anti-Semitism occurs in daycare centers and how young children pick up, negotiate and (re-)produce anti-Semitism in their everyday interactions in daycare centers. On the basis of topic-centered interviews, participant observations and group discussions, perspectives on antisemitic and intersectional practices of differentiation among young children will be analyzed and made accessible.
The lecture discusses anti-Semitism as an empirical gap in social and educational childhood research and presents the first research results of the above-mentioned project.
