On Monday evening, January 6, 2025, the student occupation of the Audimax—motivated by the stated intent to "create a space for self-organized learning focused on anti-colonialism and resistance"1 — was brought to an amicable conclusion. In the interest of de-escalation, the University Presidential Board granted the group access to the Audimax during designated time slots from Tuesday to Thursday. These sessions facilitated opportunities for knowledge-sharing, dialogue, and critical engagement, including reflections on the structures of ASH Berlin and its leadership.

We regard the conclusion of this week of protest as the starting point for a thorough reckoning with the events and their implications. At this juncture, we wish to emphasize the following:

The Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin respects and upholds students' rights to protest and freedom of expression. During these days of intense dialogue, the university demonstrated its ability to engage constructively in moments of conflict. Continuous communication between university leadership and law enforcement ensured a collaborative and constructive approach throughout.

This period of unrest subjected ASH Berlin to significant tension and controversy, testing the limits of our university community. Regrettably, red lines were crossed on multiple occasions. We deeply regret the incidents of discrimination, anti-Semitism, and (anti-Muslim) racism that occurred. These incidents have been, and will continue to be, openly addressed and systematically confronted.

In the coming months, the Presidential Board, alongside the broader university community, will undertake a comprehensive and self-critical review of these experiences, without reservation. Additionally, the Presidential Board is currently conducting a legal review to determine whether any criminal offenses were committed and will pursue legal action where appropriate.
