The print magazine before the summer university
ASH Berlin

Issue 46 of the alice print magazine is also the last printed issue of its kind. Prof. Dr. Bettina Völter, Rector of ASH Berlin, writes in the editorial:

"I cordially invite you to read the last print issue of our university magazine "alice" - on the balcony, in the subway or together with your neighbor (see "My special alice", p. 82). I am delighted if you enjoy reading it and - like me today - say goodbye to our print magazine as a complete work with good thoughts and memories [...] As always, I am happily impressed by the diversity and commitment of the authors and interviewees. They sketch a picture of life and work at the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin and beyond that makes sense and creates meaning. They write about socially relevant topics, creative approaches in teaching and research, as well as topics that have not yet been addressed or have been little discussed. "alice" provides us readers with exciting content that others are concerned about and that we may never have thought about before."

The topic of the latest issue is "The SAGE profile - more than the sum of its parts". Prof. Dr. Bettina Völter, in her introductory text:

"SAGE stands for social work, health, education and training. These are subjects, professions and fields of activity on the path to academization and professionalization. There are still numerous structural, financial and practical hurdles on this long road, which ultimately began at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. These seem to be only being removed very slowly. This results in difficult-to-solve paradoxes that make it difficult to act as a university and in the SAGE professions in a planned manner - and which are reported on here: The glaring shortage of specialists in the SAGE sector in Germany is sometimes met with regression and deprofessionalization rather than with the necessary upgrading of the professions. This is despite the fact that a high quality of services for people is required, based on the latest participatory research that includes those affected, as the law actually stipulates. Demographic change, flight and migration, multimorbidity, high stress levels for people due to climate change, wars and the intensification of work also mean that there is an urgent need for adequate further development of the SAGE disciplines and professions.

The current issue also contains many other exciting topics. For example:

  • "Worries, fears and hardships are daily business in my student life" - An interview with ASH student Laura about poverty during her studies
  • "Going your own way and questioning everything!" - Interview with Lena Stoehr(faktor), rapper, social worker and ASH alumna
  • Queer teachers: a resource for diversity in schools? - The dissertation project "Post-heteronormativity and school"
  • "I wish we could meet. I think we could talk." - Anna Csongor, awardee oft he Alice Salomon Award 2024, reflects on Alice Salomon's legacy
  • The Nursing Studies Strengthening Act - What impact will the new legislation have on nursing and physiotherapy and occupational therapy degree courses?

The alice magazine no. 46 can be read online and of course it is also available to pick up at the university.
