Alice Salomon Poetry Prize winner dies at the age of 80

Rebecca Horn, one of the most important contemporary artists, died on September 6 at the age of 80. Born in Odenwald in 1944, she has created an impressive and diverse body of work since the 1970s, which includes performances, films, sculptural installations, drawings, photographic overpaintings and poems. In her kinetic sculptures, she arranges found objects such as violins, suitcases, batons, ladders, pianos and metronomes and specially constructed objects into moving objects that open up mythical associations and cultural-historical references for the viewer.

Rebecca Horn moves masterfully between different artistic media. In 2009, she was awarded the Alice Salomon Poetics Prize, an honor that recognizes her interdisciplinary work and her influence on the art world. Prof. Dr. Christine Labonté-Roset, then Rector of the Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin and member of the jury, emphasized at the award ceremony: "Rebecca Horn is an internationally important artist and a role model, especially for young female artists."

Her legacy will remain alive in the art world and beyond and will continue to inspire in the future. We were and are very proud that we were able to award Rebecca Horn the Alice Salomon Poetry Prize and will cherish her memory."
