The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) presented the Nursing Studies Award 2024 in Berlin on November 18. Ten outstanding graduates of the first year of nursing studies under the Nursing Professions Act were honored for their excellent performance in their studies and special commitment to nursing. We are delighted that ASH alumna Christianna Quack, supervised by Prof. Dr. Johannes Gräske and Dr. Theresa A. Forbrig, is one of the award winners.

Christianna Quack impressed the jury with an inspiring application video in which she expressed her passion for nursing. The award underlines the high quality of education in the field of nursing science at Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin and Johannes Gräske's commitment to teaching.

"Christianna is a shining example of how passion and commitment in the nursing profession can not only produce academic excellence, but also bring about social change. Her excellent academic achievements, coupled with her tireless commitment to financial support for nursing students, make her a visionary nurse and a worthy recipient of the award," says Prof. Dr. Johannes Gräske.

Christianna Quack was a member of the so-called "Taskforce Pflege Bachelor", a group of nursing students from the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin, the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Berlin and the Charité. Between 2021 and 2023, the task force wrote a total of four open letters to political decision-makers to draw attention to their precarious financial situation at the time, the heavy burden of full-time study with long unpaid compulsory internships and the resulting high drop-out rate.

At the award ceremony for the Nursing Studies Prize on Monday evening, Federal Minister for Family Affairs Lisa Paus emphasized the importance of the academic nursing profession for the future of nursing: "With the Nursing Professions Act, we have made training in nursing more attractive and introduced a new nursing degree. This opens up completely new career and promotion opportunities for students. With the Nursing Studies Strengthening Act, we have finally managed to ensure that students receive appropriate remuneration. I am delighted that I was able to honor ten of them today for their outstanding achievements and commitment."

The BMFSFJ Nursing Studies Prize is endowed with a total of 1,000 euros. Further information on the BMFSFJ Nursing Studies Award 2024 can be found here.
